Broadening Creative Thinking and Practice

Broadening Creative Thinking and Practice led by Birch & O'Shea
1 Day Workshop Saturday 7th June 2008 at Yorkshire Dance

This workshop provided dance artists with the opportunity to explore some of the approaches we use in our creative work. It drew upon our collaborative multimedia practice, which has involved us combining visual art, film, movement, text and the object. The workshop explored some of the underpinning elements of our ativity and included a range of activities - giving time for observation, contemplation and discussion.

This is a workshop was for professional dance artists, dance teachers and students in fulltime dance training. We aimed to provide a perspective on the creative act that enhanced the participants existing work and/or maybe inspired them to take a new creative journey. It was a opportunity for participants to broaden their own creative thinking and practice.

ARCH

Research into dance and architecture

Arch is a collaborative project involving visual art, dance and architecture practitioners in reseraching the potential of and developing designs for the production of a touring live art installation that enables audiences to engage with dance, the human form and space in new ways.

We were recently selected by the School of Architecture at Sheffield University as a client for the 2008 Live Project. Each year Sheffield University offers the chance for selected clients from a range of backgrounds including local community groups, charities, health organizations and regional authorities to have the services of their 5 and 6 year MA architect students for free. This support in kind amounts to approximately 150 days of the School's exceptional research base as well as the commitment, vision and resources of highly talented students. In addition to this we are delighted to have the support of Arts Council England, whose funding goes towards supporting the fees and expenses of the artists involved in the project.
